Neon Frenchie, as a neon sign: a winking French bulldog above the words neon frenchie

The brand kit.

One winking dog, bent from glass. Here is everything you need to put him somewhere: the logo in every format, our colours and type, the recipe for the glow, and a short list of house rules.

Bent from one line.

The mark is a French bulldog drawn the way a glass bender would make him: one pink tube for the head and both bat ears, one amber tube for the face. Every shape is a centre-line with round ends, so he reads the same as a 16 pixel favicon and as a sign on a wall.

He winks because he's in on it. We make serious tools and silly games, and we'd like you to have a good time with both.

Head tube
Snoot Pink. One continuous loop, ears and all.
Face tube
Sodium. Open eye, wink, nose roll, nose and jowls.
Nodes
Where the glass gets heated and bent. Every bend is a smooth curve.
Mirror line
The head is symmetrical. The wink is not, and that's the point.
The Neon Frenchie mark drawn as a bending pattern: a pink head tube and an amber face tube, each a centre-line with round ends, on a 10 unit grid
The bending pattern, on a 10 unit grid. Tube width is 6 units for the head and 5 for the face.

Give him room.

Keep clear space equal to the height of the o in the wordmark, which we call x, on every side. For the mark alone, use a quarter of its width.

Clear space: keep a margin equal to the height of the o in the wordmark on every side of the logoxxxx

Smallest sizes

  • Horizontal lockup 120 px wide on screen, 30 mm in print.
  • Mark 24 px, or 8 mm in print.
  • Favicon Below 24 px, use the favicon drawing: heavier tubes on a Night tile, no glow.

Please don't.

He's a simple drawing, and he's easy to break. Use the files as they come.

  • Stretch or squash him.

  • Recolour the tubes. Pink head, amber face.

  • Tilt him. Signs hang level.

  • Add shadows, bevels or gradients.

  • Put the dark-wall colours on a light wall. Use Colour on Plaster.

  • Open the other eye. He always winks.

Colour.

Night is the wall, and Snoot Pink and Sodium are the tubes. Keep things mostly Night with one or two lit colours. A sign with every tube switched on is just noise.

Product tubes

Every product gets its own gas. It shows up in the product's icon on our site and nowhere near the Neon Frenchie logo.

Type.

Two free families from Google Fonts. Anybody is a variable sans that stretches from compressed to extra-expanded, so headlines can be as wide as a shop sign. Atkinson Hyperlegible Next does the reading, and it was designed for exactly that.

Anybody

By Etcetera Type Co. Headlines, product names, big numbers.

Small studio. Bright software.

House setting: width 125, weight 800, line height 0.92, letter spacing minus 3 percent. Sentence case, always.

Flip your phone over and a hand-drawn tabby naps until your session ends. Pick it up too soon and the cat wakes up and gives you a look. Letters like I, l and 1, or O and 0, never get mixed up, which matters when you're reading a stack size at 2 a.m.

How the glow works.

On screen, the lit logo is built like a real tube. Every shape is drawn four times, then one blur filter blooms the lot. Switch the layers off and on to see what each one does.

  1. Edge. The rim of the glass, only visible in daylight.
  2. Glass. The tube itself, tinted with its colour even when it's off.
  3. Gas. The lit colour, same width as the glass.
  4. Core. A thin white line down the middle. This is what makes it read as hot glass rather than a coloured line.
  5. Bloom. Two Gaussian blurs of the whole sign, merged under the sharp tubes.

Signs light one circuit at a time with a short flicker, and go dark with a quick fade. With reduced motion turned on, they simply switch.
